Fanbruge
After picking up my brushes again just before Christmas I was determined not to put them down again too quickly. I saw a photograph of an amazing sunrise on the River Crouch and the photo included the area of the 'tree trunk bench' on top of the seawall in the far left corner. This to me was always a favoured spot when walking the dogs with my Dad. It was our go to point (even though we often went a little further), and the start of the timber remnants across the next 'bay' of mud. I love these old remnants of timber jutting out of the muddy banks of the River Crouch. They let me think about how the river would have been edged before the sea wall, or were these the structure of wooden jetties? I started to research a little history of North Fambridge and found it was known as Fanbruge in the Domesday book. This tidal river has been captured in the memories time and time again by the populations living near and travelling through both on foot and by boat and hopefully I have given it my own personal view. More to come! Acrylic on canvas (390 x 495mm)
