TV Jubilee

3rd June 2012, the Queen's Diamond Jubilee River Pageant on the River Thames in London. The day was a complete washout in my hometown of Birmingham, but following a soaking wet walk with the dog and a warm by the fire I settled down to watch the tv and in particular the celebrations being held in the Capital. The images I was witnessing were the colour and vibrance not only of the flags, the bunting, the flowers and the painted boats, but the atmosphere created amongst the cheering crowds. Looking through the grey soaked canvas the colour came alive. Seeing the events unfold on tv meant that every building and bridge changed position along with the moving flotilla.
As the shapes and colours develop according to the guiding and dominant Union Flag, the sea worthy pageant and the London City skyline the process of drawing and painting reveals the more sinister features of the faces of the crowds witnessing this spectacle, showing the opposite that not only Royalists were viewing this occasion.
Work in progress..... there's also an idea in mind for a similar sized TV Olympics.

'Devi Garh' November 2012

If only I could give up work and concentrate on the wealth of ideas that I have for subjects. One year on from our trip to India and the only painting I have to date is the small postcard sized 'Devi Garh' sketch watercolour that I started whilst lying on the sun bed next to the pool at this fabulous hotel.
Obviously there is far much more to this area of India than just the beautiful palaces, and I'm not sure how I'm going to portay what I saw, but that's the challenge ahead!
